I'm sure there's a great reason to play out the season instead of
just handing the Kings the Cup now; unfortunately, with the Kings scoring an outrageous 7
goals per game, it isn't coming to mind at the moment. |

Surprisingly, Jeff Hackett is playing nearly well enough to make
the preseason deals look good. If he can pick it up a tiny bit more in the playoffs,
another Cup may be in the cards. |
| 3 |
3 |
 |
If there were roto leagues based on the MFHL, the safest pickup in
the game would be the Leafs' goalie; Billington joins Damian Rhodes as unimpressive
netminders who have dominated behind Toronto's blueline. |
| 4 |
4 |
 |
By far the league's best defense so far, but don't quite have the
star-studded frontline to be a truly elite team at this point. |
| 5 |
5 |
 |
Yes, I love the acquisition of Dafoe, but surely they could have
found a starting goalie without having to play Zdeno Chara on the blueline. |
| 6 |

 |
Probably the league's second-hottest team at this point, thanks in
large part to ex-Av Patrick Roy. As long as he's hot, the Avs will be looking nervously at
the standings hoping they can stay ahead. |
| 7 |
12 |
 |
The league's streakiest team is on a roll again, and Brendan
Shanahan is making a couple of teams wonder why they ditched him this past off-season. |
| 8 |
9 |
 |
Without a doubt the best third-place team in the league, but the
odds of moving beyond second are pretty low at this point. |
| 9 |
11 |
 |
Dominik's team still has one of the bottom ten defenses in the
league, but the offense is clicking well enough that it doesn't really matter.
Incidentally, Buffalo managed to abuse the Isles in the Andreychuk deal, getting the
better of the LWs and a super prospect in Krivokrasov. |
| 10 |
13 |
 |
Every other GM in the league would kill to have a minor-league
system like Detroit's, with four player improvements in the first dozen and a half games
alone. |
| 11 |
12 |
 |
Arguably the league's biggest surprise team at this point, the
Blues just keep on winning now that Mike Dunham doesn't have to do it all himself. |
| 12 |
24 |
 |
The early-season run probably won't last, but at the very least
they've probably clinched themselves a playoff spot. |
| 13 |
15 |
 |
#1 on the list of comments I never thought I'd make about the MFHL:
The Canes camp has been quiet lately... |
| 14 |
14 |
 |
The prototypical .500 team, and they're not about to improve
substantially unless Brodeur actually starts playing to potential. |
| 15 |
7 |
 |
Finally coming back to earth, though they're still a long way from
falling out of contention in the soft Southeast thanks to Holzinger's sniping.
|
| 16 |
17 |
 |
I give up. How exactly does Mike Richter keep doing so well? This
team would be a serious contender to win two divisions, it's a shame they're fighting for
third. |
| 17 |
8 |
 |
How the mighty have fallen: the defending Cup finalists are reeling
and the GM's attention seems to be lapsing as the injured Tikkanen went unreplaced. Would
this be a good time to criticize the deal that got him to begin with? |
| 18 |
12 |
 |
In season 1, it was Damian Rhodes. Last season, Mike Dunham. Now,
Kevin Hodson's the goalie who's coming out of nowhere to dominate. |
| 19 |
16 |
 |
They're barely averaging 3 goals a game, so now they're shopping
around their two best offensive players instead of one of their two extra goalies. Did I
miss something? |
| 20 |
20 |
 |
Grant Fuhr's playing as well as he ever has in the MFHL, yet the
Panthers are still struggling. If only this team had some depth... |
| 21 |
16 |
 |
This being the regular season, they'll get demolished by the Flyers
in game 20. When the two meet again in the playoffs (OK, so Philly isn't a lock to make it
out of the division), the Sens will get their revenge. |
| 22 |
21 |
 |
They're not playing terribly lately, just trading pretty badly. If
Daigle has the season he's expected to put in the Philly, no amoun of production from
Brian Savage will make up for his loss. |
| 23 |
22 |
 |
Doing pretty well lately, but that many games against New Jersey
can make anybody look good. They're beating the teams they're supposed to beat, but that's
about it. |
| 24 |
26 |
 |
This team is being built around Scott Fraser. Need I say more? |
| 25 |
25 |
 |
Started off playing above their heads, and they've fallen to their
expected level lately. At least they can look forward to the NHL season... |
| 26 |
27 |
 |
Whitney's looking human and the team's generally falling off the
pace; if they want to make the playoffs, they'll have to hope for Nashville to run into
the same. |
| 27 |
28 |
 |
They were supposed to be good this season, but now with Dafoe gone
the Ducks are resigned to another year in the cellar.. |
| 28 |
29 |
 |
Is there anything left to auction off for nothing? With the
first-rounder gone, the answer appears to be "no". |
| 29 |
30 |
 |
Yes, the MFHL's lovable losers finally win a game. In other news,
permanent peace has been reached in the Middle East. |
| 30 |
18 |
 |
The Habs get the dubious honour of being the first to fall victim
to the new "lose to the Devils, drop to #30" policy. Devils opponents, consider
yourselves warned. |
