This is Gary Greene coming to
you again with another edition of The TRADE REVIEWZ
We have had a lot more
trade movement lately with Chicago leading the way with 3 trades.. Lets take a look at
the deals.
To Ny Islanders: 800K
To Philadelphia: Vukota
Philly pays too much for a scab.
To Carolina: Corbet / S3 1st Round
To Detroit: Harvey
I have questioned almost every one of Detroits trades and this one is no
exception. I have to give Mr. White credit for hood-winking the Detroit GM.
This one, hands down, goes to Carolina. Corbet is seeing time on the top lines
in the Colorado of the NHL. Harvey is 3rd lining in for the Rangers. If it was
even up, then Detroit would have made a good deal, but the pick makes it a
steal.
To Edmonton: R. Smyth / S3 1st Round
To Ottawa: Brind'Amour
WOW
This one has the chance to be devastating for Ottawa. The give up
some of their future in Smyth and the pick to get BrindAmour, who is a free
agent at the end of the year. If Ottawa doesnt sign him , then this is a very
bad deal. Until then, it goes Ottawas way.
To Chicago: McLaren / Brisebois / Bureau / S3 2nd Rnd (Nyi)
To Ottawa: Wesley / Carter / McKee
Ottawa is at it again. This is a pretty even trade,. The teams swap players
who are holding out in the NHL and havent signed with the IHL and will affect
their numbers. Ottawa gets a good veteran in Wesley and a good youngster in
McKee. Chicago gets a youngster in Brisebois who has been turing it on more and
more. They also get defensive specialst Bureau, something they were lacking. The 2nd
round pick helps the along also and is more than worth McKee.
San Jose Sharks claim Craig Darby (Chicago Blackhawks) off
waivers
San Jose needs something for a change of pace.
To Chicago: Eastwood / Future Considerations
To Nashville: Millen
Chicago gets Eastwood and considerations for a guy who has retired from the
NHL? Nashville gets fleeced.
To Chicago: Moreau / Marshall / Quint
To Nashville: Buchberger /Huard / More
Well.. this is a tough one to rate.. Nashville gets grinding RW
Buchberger, goon LW Huard and adequate D More and gives up Young Grinding LW Moreau,
Speedy defenseman Quint and an average RW in Marshall. This trade addresses a big
hole that the Preds had on their right side in that they had no one who could check..
However, they take a step down in the talent department with this trade. I give this
one to Chicago.
To Florida: L. Murphy / S3 3rd Round (Phil) / S3 3rd Round(Nyr)
To St. Louis: Dawe
If this trade ever goes through, it will be in favor of Florida. Dawe has
been enigmatic and streaky. Murphy, while aging and with the threat of
reitrement at the end of the year, is still a very good offensive defenseman.
The picks will help Florida add players to its farm team, something that Florida
has needed every year.
To Colorado: Sakic / Donato
To Toronto: Curtis Joseph /LaFontaine / S3 1st Round (Anaheim)
This is a very interesting trade. Toronto, leading their division with 2
goalies playing WELL above their ratings go out and add aother goalie to their
team. They also add a center who is retiring at the end of the year. The pick
will help offset the loss of LaFontaine but the pick equals neither LaFaontaine
nor Donato. Colorado brings home Joe Sakic, a top center that the Avs have been
looking to add all year and gives them the deepest centering core in the league.
They also a class guy in Donato who will be lucky to play in the pros for the Avs
and could be used as trade bait. I give this one to the Avs since they did nothing
but improve their team.
To Buffalo: Luongo / Muzzatti
To Chicago: Trefilov /de Vries
This one is a minor trade.. Course, with one of the players involved not
being in the league next year, it makes it hard. Muzzati for Trefilov is a wash
as Muzz is like 4th string for Carolina in the NHL and will most likely not be
seeing the NHL anytime soon and Trefilov has decided to go back to Europe where he
feels his talents will be appreciated. So DeVries for Luongo? Deal
goes to Chicago.
To Carolina: Yake / Theodore / Sarault
To Nashville: Pellerin
Well.. another new GM and fleecing. Carolina add 2 great prospects in
Jose Theodore and in Yves Sarault while giving up Youngster Scott Pellerin.
Carolina also adds journeyman Terry Yake. This deal also thins out the Preds
right side leaving them with some unprovens and has beens there.
Carolina wins this one.
To Colombus: Garpenlov
To Washington: Harkins / Peake
This one goes to the Jakes. They deal 1 player (Peake) who is retired and
another in Harkins who is either in the IHL or retired as well.. They get
Garpenlov in return which isnt saying much.. but at least he is a player who
could improve in the minors and be there for them next year. Short term goes to
Washington but long term, Colombus.
To Carolina: S3 3rd Round / S3 3rd Round (Montreal)
To Ottawa:Prokopec
Carolina adds 2 picks in the thirs round for a young prospect in Prokepec.
If Prokepec gets into the NHL this year then it may be a good deal.. Otherwise,
with the depth that the draft seems like it is gonna be (something like 50-70
rookies started the year in the NHL) this deal goes to Carolina.
To Atlanta: McGillis
To Edmonton: Hulse
Atlanta continues to make steals in its trades. The Thrashers trade 25
year old Hulse who had a career year last year in the NHL for 26 year old
McGillis who is going to benefit from being on the line with the Legion of DOOM in the
NHL. In fact, at the time of the article, McGillis has 5 assists in the NHl and
Hulse nothing.
To Chicago: Granato / Arvd'son / MacAllister / Shtal'kov
To Detroit: Graves / Reid / Plante / Trefilov
Chicago continues to shake up their team. This one however is in
Detroits favor.. The only thing that goes in Chicagos favor is
they get rid
of Trefilov who wont be in the league next year as he has left the NHL.
Otherwise Detroit adds some good talent in Graves and Plante and a great
defensive winger in Dave Reid. Chicago gets in return, journeyman Granato
(going to his 5th team this year?), journeyman goalie in Shtalenkov who should
help Chicago next year and unimpressive defenseman MacAllister. They did add
Magnus Arvedsson who is a promising youngster, but his stats are inflated this year thanks
to Detroits great farm system.
That's all for now.. Keep the trading up Previous
Comments...
To Atlanta: 200K
To St. Louis: Namestinkov
St. Louis needed scabs
To St. Louis: L. Murphy
To Toronto: Murzyn / Nazarov
A step in the right direction for the Blues. They add a much needed
offensive force to their defense. Its too bad that he is so old and may
retire soon. The Leafs get a decent D-man in Murzyn, whose career seemed over and a
mediocre prospect in Nazarov.
To Colombus: 300K
To St. Louis: Racicot
More scabs bound for Blues Country.
To Colorado: Curtis Joseph
To Ny Islanders: Fichaud /Andreychuk
Vinnie is at it again. The depth on his team allows him to make this
trade. He picks up the premier goalie that he has been looking for. The
Isles get a good young goalie whom they can build around as well as a LW
who can help lead their team.
To St. Louis: Kolesar / 250K
To Toronto: Chris Joseph
Hmm.. Scabs going back and forth..
To Buffalo: Andreychuk / Krivokrasov
To Ny Islanders: K.Stevens / Sheppard
This one I have to give to Buffalo. They get good LW in Andreychuk who can give
them leadership and checking ability and they get youngster
Krivorkrasov whose spead is a great improvement over that of Sheppard. The Isles get
two rangy vets who can put the puck in the net on occasion. Both, however, are on
the downside of their careers.
To Atlanta: Wilkie / Zelepukin / S3 1st R / S3 2nd R / S3 3rd/R / S3
3rd R (Flr)
To Edmonton: Cote / DiMaio / Bylsma
This one is a big one. The draft is looking to be very deep this year
with quality talent and the Oilers gave it all up.. Granted, they are one
of the top teams in the league, but they have to have the players to
continue to produce. Cote is a veteran defensman who wasnt living up to
his billing in Atlanta. Bymsla is a youngster who may have a few years
ahead of him. DiMaio was the key. He wasnt having a great year and had
been a steady performer in Atlanta. In return, they got a youngster in
Wilkie who had an off year, but should rebound nicely and a Veteran
Checking winger in Zelepukin. The 4 draft picks will be huge for the
Thrashers as it gives them 7 now.
To Anaheim: K. Hatcher / Salo / Marha / Baker
To Colorado:DaFoe / LaFontaine / S3 1st Round
WOW. What was Vinnie thinking with this trade? He taking to smoking the
hash pipe or something? He trades one of the better young goalies, a top rank
defensemen and a very promising youngster in Marha for what will be esentially Dafoe and a
draft pick since LaFontaine has retired from the NHL. The one thing it does do is
that it guarantees Vinnie a top 10 pick. But that top 10 pick wont be of the caliber
of Hatcher or LaFontaine (even if it is Vinnie LeCavalier)
To St. Louis: G.Andrusak / B.Moore
To Vancouver: 400K
Blues needed more scabs.
To Montreal: Daigle / Witt / S3 3rd Round (Cal)
To San Jose:Savage / Laukannen / S3 2nd Round
The first in a few questionable trades for the Canadiens. They in no
way addressed their lack of scoring by adding Daigle to their team and
adding Witt is a sidestep from Laukannen except Witt can take the body more ala
Kasparaitus. Savage is still a youngster is is being projected at 30+ goals
something that should help San Jose now and in the Future. The 2nd round pick is a
bonus for San Jose as it will be a middle of the round pick. The 3rd round sent to
the Canadiens will be in the bottom half of the round.
To Montreal: Dome
To New Jersey: Rolston
The second questionable trade the Canadiens made. Their strength after
the previous trade was at right wing so they trade their young left wing
for another right wing??? Somebody pinch me. Even though Rolston
is a free agent, he is young and valuable. He will be on one of the Top
Lines In NJ in the NHL and should see a marked increase in his stats which will make him
one of the most coveted free agents to hit the market. Dome is a talented youngster,
but his better years are still 2 or 3 seasons away.
To Los Angeles: Wregget
To Phoenix: Modry / S3 3rd Round(conditional)
The Kings were in need of a back-up better than Sargent. They get that
with Wregget. The Coyotes get a good young defenseman in Modry who is trying to
rebound from an off year and the pick could make it even better for the Coyotes. Good Deal
both ways.
Tampa Bay Lightning claims Todd Elik (New Jersey Devils)
Why would they do this? A team loaded with LW add another one?
To Montreal: Rychel
To Washington: S3 3rd Round (Cal)
What is Montreals thought process? A 3rd round pick for Rychel? They
must just not want to show up for the Draft.
To Montreal: Goneau / B. Sweeney
To San Jose: Czerkawski /Belanger
A further questionable trade for Montreal. In a move to try an address the LW
problem they created, they add a nobody who isnt playing in the pros (if at
all) and a guy who had a fluke season but really hasnt shown
anything since. They give up 2 decent players in Czerkawski and Belanger
and get nothing in return..
To Atlanta: Pederson / Maltby / Pandolfo / Hulse
To Detroit:Satan / Shantz / Shaw / S3 2nd R (Avs)
Atlanta seems to have improved significantly in the trading department. In this
one, They trade away The Youngster Satan who hadnt been producing since his arrival
from Buffulo, the Old-timer Shaw who was toiling in the minors and Jeff Shantz, who had
been relegated to the pressbox for poor play , and the Avs second round pick (which stands
to be in the bottom 3rd of the round) only to add tremendous youth and potential. In
Hulse, they get a young defensman who should help them on the power-play and the
penalty kill. In Maltby, (whose stats got modified in the minors) they get a fast
checking winger who should have some scoring touch to him. They also add Denis Pederson
who according to scouts, should blossom into a fine 2 way center this year. And last
they add Jay Pandolfo who was a scoring machine in college and with more ice time, should
become solid player in the NHL and MFHL as well.
To Colorado: P. Bure / Coffey
To Detroit: MacInnis / Guerin/ Corbet
Vinnie shows why he is one of the most hated traders in the MFHL with this trade.
He gets the better end of this one.. at least for now. However, if Bure
continues to hold out of the Canucks camp in the NHL, Vinnie could be doing pretty
bad. Detroit adds to its already tremendous depth on defense by adding MacInnis to
Bourque, Brown, an enhanced McAlpine, Lidstrom, and Malakhov. However, Bill Guerin
is no Pavel Bure. Rene Corbet adds to the Wings Depth and if they minors continue to
produce for the Wings, then Corbet could be a force.
New Jersey Devils claim David Wilkie (Atlanta Thrashers) off waivers
What the Hell is Atlanta doing? The grab Cale Hulse in a trade, then demote
Wilkie? This will bite Atlanta in the ass next year.
To Carolina: Alfredsson / Lindgren / S3 2nd R
To Florida: Dawe /Nemchinov / Timmander / S3 3rd R (conditional)
This is a great trade for the Canes. Alfredsson reminds me of a young
Joe Sakic when Sakic first started playing for the Nordiques. Sakic carried the
Nordiques while they built the team around him and that is the the NHL Senators are
doing with Alfredsson. Lindgren in a good young defensive center. The second
round pick will be high enough that it will almost be a 1st rounder. Florida gets
the enigmatic and WAY over priced Dawe. They get a steady centerman in Nemchinov as
well.
Timmander showed signs early in his career, but isn't going any farther
than the minors.
To Philadelphia: Ciccarelli
To St. Louis: Presley / S3 3rd Round/ 2 Mil
This trade is pretty even. St. Louis adds to it's coffers all the money
it had paid out this season to get scabs. It also draft pick that will help to
replenish the team down the line. Something they haven't been able to do before.
Philly gets itself a 3rd Right wing that will help balance the teams attack.
To Los Angeles: Heward
To Nashville: Sargeant / 200K
LA trades young Sargent and cash for Jamie Heward, who showed alot of
potential in the NHL pre-season. This trade has no effect now, but could go either
way depending on how the players do in the future.
To Colorado: Beukeboom
To Pittsburgh: S3 3rd Round
Colorado adds bruiser Beukaboom for a draft pick that will be
inconsequential.
To Detroit: Granato / Laukannen / J. Hull
To San Jose: Guerin /S3 2nd Round
I really don't understand this trade for the Wings at all. On a team
whose depth at Left Wing and defense is its strength, they add another LW In Granato
at the cost of one of the better Right wings in the league?
Particularly a RW that is scheduled to be their #1 since they trade
Bure? I give this one to the Sharks.
To Anaheim: Arnott / Picard / S3 2nd Round
To Philadelphia:Marha / Brunette
I don't understand this trade for the Ducks? They trade 2 young
offensice minded players who (even if over-rated) should be producing for them with some
help. Arnott on the other hand, is mired in a career slump while Picard seems
to be a perpetual minor-leaguer. The only benefit for the Ducks is the draft pick,
but that is gonna be in the bottom half of the round. For Philly, they now have 2
bonafide lines with Marha and Brunnette set to step in with either Brown or Ciccarelli
that should for a devastating attack.
To Detroit: M. Richter / D. Mironov
To Minnesota: Osgood /MacInnis
Another questionable trade for the Wings. Osgood for Richter is a
slight favor to the Wild, but what give the wild this trade is Mironov for MacInnis.
This is in the WILDS favor. Hands down. MacInnis has the hardest
shot in the league (NHL) and is always in consideration for the All-Star team. Mironiv is
an above average to good defensemen (can't be too good if the Wings didn't dress him in
the Stanley Cup Series and then let him walk).
To Detroit: Tkachuk
To Phoenix: Kovalev / Satan
Well.. this is a good and bad trade for the Wings. Good that they get a
premier top flight Left wing, bad in that they deplete themselves of another RW.
Now.. they have only Blair Atchenym on the Right side. On the left, they now have,
Tkachuk, Bellows, Arvedsson, Gelinas and Burridge. Phoenix gets the Right Wing they
wanted to play with Tkachuk and Roenick. Oopps.. Tkachuk is who they traded to get
him. They are now stacked on the right side the way the Wings are stacked on the left
except the Wings have more talent on the left. Satan will do a good job and his speed
should help, but it won't offset the loss of Tkachuks scoring ability. I don't see
how this trade benefits either team.
(BTW... someone needs to let the new guys know that players can't play
out of position on 5on5 lines)
Well.. Thats my critiques for now.. Keep up the
good work gents.. BTW.. if TommyTwo Times could get ahold of me,. I need to talk to him
about some protection.. Damn Russian Mafia
