As usual, I feel like shooting off, so that's how I'll be
starting today. Of course, we all have concerns about the Panthers GM, but here's
something you may not be thinking about when you think about the situation. I say, give
the guy some time to develop a winning formula. When new management takes over a team, as
was the case of the Hurricanes, Blues and Capitals (with Season 1 trades like Hunter/Cote
to Toronto for Clark and Lehtinen/Courville to Detroit for Taylor), expect some trading
with an odd sense of cluelessness on their parts. The Hurricanes and Blues could very well
be the next generation of champions in this league, and it's a safe bet to say that the
Capitals are the hardest working team in the MFHL. Whether it's through youthful
rebuilding or modeling your team around hard-working, gritty players and a top-notch
netminder, you must say that these teams have done good jobs. So, as I said, give the new
management in Florida under Alex Gustafik some time to build the Panthers under their
specifications, and let time be the judge.
On the other side of the dial, there are some former elitist teams in the league in need
of a facelift. The current Western Conference champion Chicago Blackhawks are
underachieving so far this season, and with players like Trevor Linden, Steve Heinze, Guy
Hebert and Robert Svehla, they shouldn't be. Under the new management of Mark Crowder, a
facelift may be in store, but I don't see the nucleus of the organization going anywhere.
In San Jose, the Sharks also need a facelift (or to use Hextall with more regularity).
Rumor has it that longtime Sharks GM Greg Fingas expected this season to be a down time
for the Sharks. My suggestion is that they should utilize Maruisz "The Polish
Prince" Czerkawski some, but this is definitely a team that shouldn't be where it is
right now.
Scoring is still higher than expected for this season with lower ratings. One of the
quirks of trying to be like Nostradamus I guess. However, words of wisdom from
"Tiger" have been lower than expected this season. I think the populace is still
wondering when he'll jump onto the MFHLNet. He'd be a key to making the premier news
service for the MFHL even better.
Let's hear it for Joe Grikis joining the MFHL team as the new Calgary Flames record. He
has an excellent track record that will be very useful in this league. Being an MFHL GM
brings a certain level of extra responsibility you must honor and utilize to the fullest.
Grikis WILL bring this to the league.
Kudos to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for upsetting the rival Los Angeles Kings, just up
the I-5 freeway. It has the workings of becoming one of the league's best rivalries.
Okay then, one final word, and I'll get back to basics. MFHLnet is looking good,
and I, Joe Micheletti, is proud to be an integral part of it.
See you next time, as the time is up for now.
